Can Motivation Lead To Transformation?

If you were to climb to the top of the mountain and finally reach that all-knowing guru who holds the secret to life and are granted one question, what would it be? Some would ask the secret to great wealth. Others would seek to learn how to live a long and healthy life without aging. A select few might want to know how to motivate themselves and others.

If we acquire the skills to motivate ourselves and others then we have the basic tools to acquire almost everything else that a good life requires. It might be disappointing when the old man at the top of the mountain answers simply, “To know thyself and be kind.”

These are wise words and hold much truth, but it’s a pretty broad answer. To motivate or be motivated requires learning and dedication. Motivation is a skill that can be easily learned if you possess dedication. Yet, it takes an honest effort to remain dedicated to anything you really want, allowing enough time to see within yourself, the ultimate transformation.

We use motivation daily at home and at work. Subconsciously we’re striving to motivate ourselves and those we come in contact with.

We use our innate motivation skills to acquire the results we seek. We use these skills on our spouse, our co-workers and our friends everyday to get our way. It’s a delicate balance between communication and persuasion. Maybe the sage knew what he was talking about when he advised to know yourself and be kind to others. It’s long been said that we attract more flies with honey than vinegar.

Expect the best and settle for nothing less. If you’re doing the task or someone else is doing the task for you, insist on the best results or at the very least demand improvement over the last task. Pride should always motivate you to do your very best.

Stay happy and productive and you’ll stay motivated long enough to reap the rewards of a well deserved transformation.

Can Motivation Quotes Instigate Change?

We become what we think. This quote has been proven over and over again. If we perceive something bad is going to happen to us, many times it does.

On the contrary, if we believe something good is going to happen this often becomes true as well. Science has affirmed the link between positive effect and its impact on an individual’s motivation and performance.

If we expect the best or we expect the worst, we’re usually not disappointed. Each time we perceive a positive thought it increases our own perceptions of positive expectancy. For motivation to last it requires constant thinking with daily positive reinforcement.

Surround yourself with positive affirmations and you will initiate change in yourself, your life and in the lives of others. Positive thoughts enable you to achieve self-confidence and self esteem.

With these qualities you can motivate and inspire yourself. More important, believe in yourself and others will believe in you too.

Celebrating The Colours Of Our Canadian Flag

When I think about Canada Day, I’m always drawn to the colours of our national flag. The colours strike a cord with me wondering what red and white actually stand for.

So first, a quick history about when the colours red and white were designated as Canada’s official colours and then my thoughts on what they represent to us as a nation today.

Apparently red and white was designated by King George V on November 21, 1921 in the proclamation of the Royal Arms of Canada. It was Sir Eugene Fiset who recommended

Canada's emblem be the single red maple leaf on a white field.  To date, this emblem has been worn by all Canadian Olympic athletes since 1904.

Mr. Jacques St-Cyr stylized the maple leaf and the Right Honourable Lester B. Pearson, wanted a distinctive national flag as a vehicle to promote national unity.  Dr. George Stanley

influenced the central concepts of red-white-red stripes with a central maple leaf for our National Canadian Flag.

Now let’s take a closer look at the colours of our Canadian flag to reflect on what it represents and symbolizes for people today.

Red, a warm and energizing colour where we take strength and courage to find our way.  As a nation, Canada has definitely gone above and beyond to find a way for all Canadians to live in peace and harmony, as one nation, integrating all our beautiful cultures.

Red symbolizes the passion we have as a nation to take action and be passionate about integrating our cultural differences, in a way that allows us ALL to express and experience what it means to live like and BE Canadian.  It’s the vast and glorious expanse of our country that drives us to be passionate, ambitious people, challenging ourselves for adventure, fuelling our creativity.  So, is it exciting to be Canadian, you bet!

But what does the color white in our flag symbolize?

White is the ultimate expression of ONENESS – with the Universe at our finger tips – allowing for ALL -  honesty, faith and mercy, to guide the way for ONE nation. This beautiful white colour represents a nation UNITED, revelling in harmony, knowing as a people, our purpose and the gift of this very precious planet.

All that is good and pure is found in the 'white light'.  From our country, with all it has to offer the people advancing change, to those respecting the lands and protecting nature.  Our gracious foundation is not only solid and pure, it is a land sought after by many for the gifts and opportunities abound.

So, the next time you look at the colours of our beautiful Canadian Flag, take a moment to reflect on what the colours mean to you about our glorious, magnificent, spectacular nation.

Happy Canada Day!

How to Build Your Confidence, One Colour at a Time

Many of us have goals and dreams we envision for our lives, but without self-confidence, we’ll get nowhere with them.

Building self confidence will give you the motivation needed to achieve everything you want out of life.

Here are a few exercises you can try each day to help boost your self-confidence.

Start a journal. A confidence-boosting journal should contain positive things you did for that day. Most people accomplish a lot of little things in the span of 24 hours, but don’t really think of them as achievements.

By putting them in a journal each day, you see how they build up over the weeks, months, and years.  You might start with the simple things – like five ways you paid a random act of kindness to a stranger or three things you did that helped further your career.

It can be something as simple as holding the door open for an elderly person or reading a book about saving for retirement.  And to make it more interesting, why not associate a colour to each random act of kindness?  For example:

If you did something that sparked someones passion, check Red.
If you did something that made someone feel happy, check Orange.
If you did something particularly focused to help someone, check Yellow.
If you did something loving and kind for someone during your day, check Green.
If you did something intuitively for another, check Blue.
If you did something relaxing and calming for someone, check Indigo.
If you did something creative with someone, check Purple.

As you look back on your entries of positive accomplishments, it will motivate you to achieve more and you’ll be able to identify areas in your life where there is too much or too little of the colourful activity.

List your goals in baby steps.  Instead of setting a goal to accomplish the whole thing at once, try breaking it down into tiny steps that you need to meet each day. Each time you get to cross off the little steps, you gain more confidence and you’ll empower yourself to reach the next step until you’ve achieved the primary goal.

Remember its ok to ‘Go for Gold’.  The key to achieving your goals often requires baby steps helping you gain the esteem you’re lacking.

Read inspirational quotes.  With so much on the market today, search the internet or purchase a book with lots of inspirational quotes about confidence or self-esteem. Read one quote everyday and see if you can apply it to your own life.  This is a great way to avoid feeling ‘Blue’.

The key to feeling confident is finding balance in all you do.

So why not enjoy the experience and build your confidence, one colour at the time.

The Naked Millionaire, with Maxine Hyndman

(download)

Maxine Hyndman, Whealth and Marketing Coach, Speaker and Author of the book, The Naked Millionaire.
Learn more about her business practice in her areas of expertise, whealth and marketing. More specifically, The Naked Millionaire focuses on our relationships with money, how to create abundance in life, and how to overcome financial roadblocks that may be holding us back from reaching true success especially in these challenging financial times
Maxine and I had the pleasure of sitting down and talking about the success of her book and how it all cohesively came together to share with others. There is no question this book was written from a place of healthy living, or as she says, whealthly living.
Maxine calls household debt a “disease that plagues individuals and families” with to few of these households knowing how to deal with money effectively. Now that’s a very strong opening statement, but she goes on to explain this behaviour, how we handle our finances, effective money management and this DIS-EASE learned behaviour?

The Dedication of Maxine's book is “to anyone drowning in debt with barely enough energy to get out of bed in the morning”…speaks to many people in financial crisis today.
